American Idol Live Blogs May 21 Results Live Blog Transcript
This is it! The BIG show! It's time to get set for the big American Idol party...we find out in a short period of time which David delivered the goods last night! Enjoy the play by play, and remember to hit refresh often for updates, and of course, feel free to respond as we go along!
Here they are. The two David's in white under the spotlight! Ryan says 97.5 million votes came in - didn't just break the record, we smashed it by over 23 mil. One David received 56%, the other received 44% of the vote. Checking in with the home towns - here we are in Kansas City with the Plaza going wild. Now we're in Salt Lake City - most of Murray high school is there. Here come the Idol Twelve to sing, all dressed in white, singing "Get Ready." They sound great! Dancers are mixed in...now that DWTS is over. Nice job, 6 minutes in, time for a Fox commercial break.
Wow - right out of the break into David Cook singing, and here comes Arch to join him. You're not going to believe this, but their voices actually sound great blended together! The song is Hero by Nickelback. Oh, boy...cheap plug for the new Mike Myers movie right here on Idol. I'm guessing it's a Fox movie. The Love Guru is giving "advice" to the Davids. He told Cook to lose the facial hair and warned Arch he'd soon get hair in "wild and wonderful" places. And here is Mike Myers as the Guru on stage. He says Randy, you are my dog. Paula, I love you. Simon (whispers) I love you even more. I miss Austin Powers. Ryan almost gets pulled off the stage on the Guru's magic pillow.
Syesha to sing with her "special guest." She sings a few bars and intros Seal! She look fabulous and sounds great with Seal! We're diggin this! That was Seal's "I Have Been Waiting." STANDING O from us. Break leads with (you guessed it) The Love Guru commercial.
We're back with Jason Castro singing "Hallelujah." Nice job. Ford commercial with lots of the Idols from this season, past commercials merged into one. Ryan brings out the two Idols and talks about the spots...they are giving them both keys to Escape hybrids! Both David's get one!
Six female finalists sing "She Works Hard for the Money" dressed in red. Amanda Overmeyer looks thrilled to be dancing, since we all know how she loves that. They take turns with solos. Well, hey, there's Donna Summer! She's got a new single, and she's still got the pipes! "This is Stamp Your Feet." Back in time now to the slow wind up to "Last Dance." Disco time! Anyone know how to do the Bus Stop? Paula's on her feet. Syehsa joins Donna for an awesome duet! Gotta say it - Syesha looks like a star tonight! Break time.
While we wait, we'd like to welcome our friends from all over the globe tonight joining us for this live blog - Japan, Moscow, Canada, Philippines and the U.S. Hello!
Carly Smithson and Michael Johns to sing "The Letter" together. Both have very professional pasts - this is fun to watch! Awesome! Jimmy Kimmel to the stage, asks how much he should tip Sanjaya for parking his car. Pokes fun at Ryan for being so metro. Pokes fun at Paula for seeing performances no one else sees. Refers to Simon's father as Satan. They've put together a montage of Simon's famous words and phrases set to music. FUNNY!
Top six guys to sing "Summer of 69" David Hernandez...oh, yeah...that guy was a stripper! He's got the moves. They sound great! Transition into "Heaven." It's Bryan Adams songs. David Cook is a bit off key for a moment. We saw this coming - here's Bryan Adams! He's singing "I Thought I'd Seen Everything." Goes into "Somebody." Nice job. Commercial time!
A big HELLO to all the folks checking in from Salt Lake City! Gee, who could they be rooting for?! lol
We're back with Cook rockin out with ZZ Top!! He's in heaven doing "Sharp Dressed Man" with that Little Ol Band from Texas. No matter who wins tonight, both David's will have dreams come true. Back to Kansas City with David's music teacher. She says the flowers have faded, but she'll have these memories forever. Graham Nash to sing with Brooke White now. Singing "Teach Your Children Well" together. Very nice harmonies. At least she didn't ask him to start over again! Her bare feet are sticking out from under her nice evening gown. Classy touch. Commercial break - one hour down!
Hello to our friends checking in from Washington DC! (Are we spilling classified info here? lol)
We're back with the Jonas Brothers --- SCREAMS!! They sound good, but the sound tech needs to fix the levels. We can't hear the band! They sang "Walking on Broken Glass." Ryan plucks a date out of the crowd. Probably his grandma. Time to relive the awful auditions. Oh, my. They're bringing out the "I Am Your Brother Guy" to the stage! AGH!! They broke out the Trojans for this one. (The USC Trojans, that is.) Cheerleaders and all. Paula and Randy join them on stage while Simon sits and smile. YIKES! Paula is dangerously close to having a wardrobe malfunction! It's not to be. Commercial time.
Back again with One Republic "Apologize." Hey, that's not Timbaland taking over, it's D'Arch! Sounds nice. Wow, Little David's rocking! Open your eyes! There's Daddy Dearest in the crowd. Ryan brings David to the stage to check in with Salt Lake City at the watch party. There's his grandpa! There's his maternal granpa with a translator...the grandpa's are gonna fight over where David's talent comes from! lol Cute.

Sounds GREAT, but killed the mood! Paula cries. She can't sit down. George looks a bit rough, but WOW can he still sing! Ryan announces George's first American in 17 years. Break time! We're almost down to it!
